Chapter 2 Operating Principles
2-2.
Operation of Control Parts
2-29 CL-E700 series
(5) Ribbon motor temperature sensor
The ribbon motor temperature sensor is used to detect the temperature of the “SA Ribbon
Motor F” on the ribbon take-up side. This sensor is a thermistor bonded to the “SA Ribbon
Motor F”.
Since the resistance of the thermistor changes according to the temperature change, the
voltage at pin 99 (TMPRIB) of the CPU (U1A) changes accordingly. The CPU senses the
voltage at pin 99 (TMPRIB) to detect the temperature of the “SA Ribbon Motor F”.
Printing operation when the “SA Ribbon Motor F” temperature rises:
When the temperature of the “SA Ribbon Motor F” reaches 85
C (185F), the “SA Ribbon
Motor F” stops after printing the current label.
In this case, the LED on the operation panel blinks in red and the LCD displays “Error RBMotor
Hot”, and the printer goes off-line. When the temperature of the “SA Ribbon Motor F” falls
below 80
C (176F), the LED and LCD returns to normal display, and printing automatically
resumes.
Abnormally high temperature detection:
To protect the “SA Ribbon Motor F” from being damaged, an abnormally high temperature
detection circuit is provided. If the temperature of the “SA Ribbon Motor F” exceeds a set
temperature limit, the LED on the operation panel blinks in red and the LCD displays “Error
System Fail”, and the printer goes off-line. To recover from the error status, turn OFF the
printer once and then turn it ON.
A reference voltage, i.e., an allowable temperature limit, is applied to pin 2 of the comparator
(U8A), while the sensor output voltage (TMPRIB) from the ribbon motor temperature sensor is
applied to pin 3.
