9.8 Error Messages in HP-GL Command Mode
If any of the following command errors occur, they are nearly always caused by
one of the reasons listed below:
CAUSE
1 The software configuration regarding the output device has been changed; or
2 The plotter’s interface conditions have been changed.
SOLUTION
1 Configure the software to drive your plotter.
2 Set the software’s interface conditions correctly.
Symptom Cause Solution
ERROR 1
NOT RECOGNIZED
An unrecognizable
instruction was executed.
Execute a recognizable
command.
ERROR 2
WRONG NUMBER OF
PARAMETERS
A command was executed
with the wrong number of
parameters.
Execute the command
with the correct number of
parameters.
ERROR 3
OUT OF RANGE
PARAMETERS
A command containing an
unusable parameter was
specified.
Execute the command
with parameters specified
within their permissible
ranges.
ERROR 5
UNKNOWN
CHARACTER SET
An unrecognizable
instruction was executed.
Specify a recognizable
command.
ERROR 6
PARAMETER
OVERFLOW
A command was executed
with coordinated data that
exceeds the effective
cutting/plotting area.
Execute the command
with its coordinate data
specified within the
effective cutting/plotting
area.
ERROR 7
BUFFER OVERFLOW
The data being input
exceeds the capacity of
the plotter's downloadable
character buffer, polygon
buffer, etc.
Increase buffer size.
ERROR 10
INVALID I/O OUTPUT
REQUEST
During the execution of an
output command, another
output command was
executed.
Check the flow of your
programmed data.
ERROR 11
INVALID BYTE
FOLLOWING ESC
The ESC character was
followed by an invalid byte.
Check the ESC command
in your program.
