There are three steps required to create a working copy:
1. Start
MS-DOS
software.
2. Format a new diskette(s).
3. Copy the original diskette(s) that you received with your package to the
working diskette(s).
Starting MS-DOS Software
Starting
MS-DOS
on some PCs may require you to insert your copy of the
MS-DOS
diskette into your floppy drive, close the door, and reboot or turn on the PC. The disk
drive indicator light will come on, and the PC may print out diagnostic results on the
monitor. PCs which operate in a
Windows 95
environment require you to exit
Windows
by clicking on the
Start
button, then
Shut Down
, then
Restart the
computer in
MS-DOS
mode
. In
Windows 3.1
, exit windows using the
File
menu to
operate your PC in
MS-DOS
mode. When
MS-DOS
software is ready, a prompt (for
example, A>) appears on the display screen. This is how
MS-DOS
software lets you
know it is ready for you to type a command.
Formatting a New Diskette
You will need a blank diskette(s). It is a good practice to label diskettes so that you
can keep track of them. You should prepare a label for the diskette(s) marked as
Lucent Tecnologies DDM-2000 FiberReach Release a.b.c - working copy. The a.b.c is
the release version that you are copying.
!
WARNING:
Do not write on diskette label using a ballpoint pen or pencil.
When the prompt
A>
appears, type the following command, and then press
<ENTER>
. (If you make a mistake while entering this command, you can press the
BACKSPACE
key, or equivalent, which will erase one character at a time.)
