Operating the Anaesthesia System
7 If ths test fals, recheck the low pressure system on the
machne (6313)
If the low pressure test on the machne s successful, check
the ventlator and absorber
Breathng rcut Protecton
1 Use a breathng system bacteral flter n the expratory lmb
of the breathng crcut to protect the oxygen sensor
2 Use a heat and mosture exchanger (HME) at the patent
Y-pece
A combned HME / bacteral flter can also be used, but note
that the expratory lmb bacteral flter s stll requred
AUTION
Replacement/Dsposal
Always follow the nstructons suppled wth the flter or heat
and mosture exchanger
Always renew components at the recommended nterval
7.2.12 Adustable Pressure Lmtng (APL) Valve Test and
Pressure Relief Test
APL Valve Functon
1 Open the APL valve (7)
heck that gas escapes freely from the system through the
valve outlet
APL Valve Flow Resstance
2 Set maxmum flow and check that the retaned pressure s
less than 05 kPa (5 cmHO)
3 Reduce flow to mnmum
Pressure Relef
4 lose the APL valve fully (clockwse)
5 Remove the reservor bag Block the bag port on the arm (3)
6 Use the flow controls on the machne to produce a hgh flow
of gas nto the system and check that the APL valve provdes
excess pressure relef
7 The manometer readng must not exceed 6 kPa (60 cmHO) ±
10% at 6 L/mn
8 Reft the reservor bag
7.2.1.3 Inspiratory and Expiratory Non-return Valve Test
1 Detach the hose connectng the nspratory and expratory
connectors (5 and 6)
2 heck that the adustable pressure lmtng (APL) valve (7) s
closed
3 Block the nspratory valve outlet (5) wth a sutable bung,
and nflate the reservor bag (not shown) wth a 2 L/mn
oxygen flow
4 Turn off the gas flow and check that the bag does not empty
by reverse flow through the expratory valve (6)
5 Remove the bung and attach a spare reservor bag to the
nspratory valve connector (5)
6 Turn on a 2 L/mn oxygen flow and fully nflate ths bag (and
the absorber reservor bag)
