Operating the Anaesthesia System
7 If ths test fals, recheck the low pressure system on the
machne (6313)
If the low pressure test on the machne s successful, check
the ventlator and absorber
Breathng rcut Protecton
1 Use a breathng system bacteral flter n the expratory lmb
of the breathng crcut to protect the oxygen sensor
2 Use a heat and mosture exchanger (HME) at the patent
Y-pece
A combned HME / bacteral flter can also be used, but note
that the expratory lmb bacteral flter s stll requred
AUTION
Replacement/Dsposal
Always follow the nstructons suppled wth the flter or heat
and mosture exchanger
Always renew components at the recommended nterval
7.2.12 Adustable Pressure Lmtng (APL) Valve Test and
Pressure Relief Test
APL Valve Functon
1 Open the APL valve (7)
heck that gas escapes freely from the system through the
valve outlet
APL Valve Flow Resstance
2 Set maxmum flow and check that the retaned pressure s
less than 05 kPa (5 cmHO)
3 Reduce flow to mnmum
Pressure Relef
4 lose the APL valve fully (clockwse)
5 Remove the reservor bag Block the bag port on the arm (3)
6 Use the flow controls on the machne to produce a hgh flow
of gas nto the system and check that the APL valve provdes
excess pressure relef
7 The manometer readng must not exceed 6 kPa (60 cmHO) ±
10% at 6 L/mn
8 Reft the reservor bag
7.2.1.3 Inspiratory and Expiratory Non-return Valve Test
1 Detach the hose connectng the nspratory and expratory
connectors (5 and 6)
2 heck that the adustable pressure lmtng (APL) valve (7) s
closed
3 Block the nspratory valve outlet (5) wth a sutable bung,
and nflate the reservor bag (not shown) wth a 2 L/mn
oxygen flow
4 Turn off the gas flow and check that the bag does not empty
by reverse flow through the expratory valve (6)
5 Remove the bung and attach a spare reservor bag to the
nspratory valve connector (5)
6 Turn on a 2 L/mn oxygen flow and fully nflate ths bag (and
the absorber reservor bag)
