Operating the Anaesthesia System
7 Turn off the gas flow heck that gas cannot be forced
through the nspratory valve by gentle squeezng of the
spare bag on the valve outlet
8 Remove the bag from the nspratory connector (5)
7.2.1.4 Bag/Ventilator switch test
1 Reft the breathng hose between the nspratory (5) and
expratory (6) connectors Set the bag/ventlator swtch (4) to
‘Vent’
2 Set a flow of 10 L/mn heck that the bellows starts to
nflate Ensure that the bag s not nflatng
3 Move the swtch (4) to Bag poston and watch the bag
nflate The bellows stops rsng
When the pressure reads 3 kPa (30 cmHO) turn off the flow
of gas
4 Select ventlator, the pressure on gauge should drop, but the
bag should reman nflated
5 Squeeze the bag, there should be no loss of pressure, and
the bellows must not rse
7.2.1.5 Leak Test - Absorber Canister Detached
1 Turn the lever (1) clockwse to release the canster (2)
2 Set the swtch (3) to Bag poston and close the adustable
pressure lmtng (APL) valve (4)
3 Pressurse the system to 3 kPa (30 cmHO)
Turn off the gas flow
4 heck that pressure does not fall to zero wthn one mnute
5 Reft the absorbent canster
WARNIN
a) The canster seals at the top face Mantan the poston
of the rm of the canster over the outer lp of the seal
(5) as you rotate the lever (1) ant-clockwse to the
vertcal, locked-on poston
b) Falure to lock the canster n the fully closed poston,
may cause a system leak and/or a reducton n O
absorpton
6 Lft the canster upwards (6) and poston the rm of the
canster over the outer lp of the seal (5)
7 Hold the canster n place, check that there s no lateral
movement
8 Turn the lever (1) ant-clockwse to the vertcal poston to
lock the canster n place
9 A pressure loss wll occur as valves operate durng reftment
10 Repressurse the system to 3 kPa (30 cmHO) and turn off
the gas flow
11 heck that the pressure does not fall to zero wthn one
mnute, then open the APL valve to release pressure
12 Repeat the absorber leak test - see secton 7211
