Operating the Anaesthesia System
7 Turn off the gas flow heck that gas cannot be forced
through the nspratory valve by gentle squeezng of the
spare bag on the valve outlet
8 Remove the bag from the nspratory connector (5)
7.2.1.4 Bag/Ventilator switch test
1 Reft the breathng hose between the nspratory (5) and
expratory (6) connectors Set the bag/ventlator swtch (4) to
‘Vent’
2 Set a flow of 10 L/mn heck that the bellows starts to
nflate Ensure that the bag s not nflatng
3 Move the swtch (4) to Bag poston and watch the bag
nflate The bellows stops rsng
When the pressure reads 3 kPa (30 cmHO) turn off the flow
of gas
4 Select ventlator, the pressure on gauge should drop, but the
bag should reman nflated
5 Squeeze the bag, there should be no loss of pressure, and
the bellows must not rse
7.2.1.5 Leak Test - Absorber Canister Detached
1 Turn the lever (1) clockwse to release the canster (2)
2 Set the swtch (3) to Bag poston and close the adustable
pressure lmtng (APL) valve (4)
3 Pressurse the system to 3 kPa (30 cmHO)
Turn off the gas flow
4 heck that pressure does not fall to zero wthn one mnute
5 Reft the absorbent canster
WARNIN
a) The canster seals at the top face Mantan the poston
of the rm of the canster over the outer lp of the seal
(5) as you rotate the lever (1) ant-clockwse to the
vertcal, locked-on poston
b) Falure to lock the canster n the fully closed poston,
may cause a system leak and/or a reducton n O
absorpton
6 Lft the canster upwards (6) and poston the rm of the
canster over the outer lp of the seal (5)
7 Hold the canster n place, check that there s no lateral
movement
8 Turn the lever (1) ant-clockwse to the vertcal poston to
lock the canster n place
9 A pressure loss wll occur as valves operate durng reftment
10 Repressurse the system to 3 kPa (30 cmHO) and turn off
the gas flow
11 heck that the pressure does not fall to zero wthn one
mnute, then open the APL valve to release pressure
12 Repeat the absorber leak test - see secton 7211
