More complex network structures can be set up by using switches with a higher number of
ports, in the example above a SCALANCE XC124 device with 24 electrical ports. In terms of
the numbers of nodes and the physical span of the network, this is practicable only up to a
certain limit.
If extensive networks need to be configured, the use of several switches and the resulting
subnetworks makes sense.
