4.5.12.1 Description

With the devices of the SCALANCE X-200RNA product line, fault-tolerant communication
structures can be established that also ensure delay-free data transmission in case of a
failure. The abbreviation "RNA" stands for "Redundant Network Access". Depending on the
required network topology, the redundancy procedures PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol,
for line and star topology) or HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy Protocol, for ring
topology) are used. With the PRP redundancy procedure, a SCALANCE X-200RNA enables
the connection of up to two end devices or network segments to two parallel networks. The
operating principle of the HSR redundancy procedure consists of sending frames in ring
networks into two directions. The devices of the SCALANCE X-200RNA series are available
in two hardware versions. The X204RNA EEC variant has a metal housing and is suitable for
ambient temperatures of -40 °C to 70 °C.
