3.11 Needle
Only use needles from the 130/705 system for your
machine. Select a needle thickness that is suitable for
the selected fabric: Fine needles for fine fabrics, thick
needles for heavy fabrics.
n Needle sizes 70, 75: Lightweight fabrics
n Needle sizes 80, 90: Medium fabrics
n Needle sizes 100, 110 and 120: Heavyweight
fabrics
There are different needle types for different sewing
projects. You can identify the needle type and needle
size by the needle name, e.g. 130/705 H-S/70:
1 2 5 3 4
1705 = Flat Shank 2130 = Shaft Length 3H =
Needle Scarf 4S = Point Type 570 = Needle Size
Detailed information on needles and their applications
can be found in the BERNINA Needle Brochure.
Needles become worn over time. Needles should be
replaced regularly, as a clean stitch can only be made
with a sharp tip.
Needle/Thread Combination
The needle/thread combination is correct if
the thread is guided exactly into the long
groove and through the eye of the needle.
If the thread is too thin for the needle, it will
have too much room to move in the long
groove and in the eye of the needle. This
can result in the thread breaking or skipping
stitches.
If the thread is too thick for the needle, it
will be difficult to guide it through the eye
of the needle and it may rub along the edge
of the long groove. This can result in the
thread breaking and sticking in the needle.
