Needle Position
You can adjust the position of the needle in various
ways.
n Button Needle Position Up/Down
: Raise or
lower the needle.
n Buttons Needle Position Left/Right
: Move the
needle five positions to the left or to the right of
the center.
n Status icon Needle Stop
: Modify the needle
position when the machine is stopped.
3.12 Attaching the Retractable
Thread Guide
BERNINA recommends using the two left vertical spool
pins for sewing and stitching in conjunction with the
retractable thread guide. The retractable thread guide
ensures a clean unwinding of the thread from the
spools.
1. Insert the retractable thread guide into the opening
provided and press it down firmly until it sits
securely.
2. Flip over the guide and engage it in the groove.
Align the thread guide in such a way that the three
rear eyelets lie exactly above the three vertical spool
pins.
3. Pull the thread guide up as far as it will go. While
doing so, rotate the rod slightly so that the locking
cams engage.
3.13 Upper Thread
The quality, thickness and material of the thread must
be suitable for the selected fabric. BERNINA
recommends purchasing high-quality threads to
achieve optimum sewing results.
n Cotton threads are particularly suitable for sewing
decorative projects on cotton fabric, such as quilts.
As cotton threads are not particularly tear-resistant,
they can also be used for basted seams that are
later undone. They should not, however, be used
for seams that need to be particularly hard-
wearing.
n Mercerized cotton threads have a slight sheen that
remains even after washing.
n Polyester threads have a high tensile strength and
are particularly colorfast. Polyester threads are more
flexible and are recommended where a strong and
elastic seam is required.
n Rayon/viscose threads are characterized by their
bright sheen. Rayon threads are suitable for
decorative stitches and create a more beautiful
effect.
Threading the Single Needle
In order to get a proper stitch and prevent threads from
becoming tangled, the upper thread must be threaded
correctly.
The direction in which the thread should be threaded is
marked on the machine with solid arrows and is
numbered according to the correct sequence.
