3 Set Up the machine 35
n A foam pad is attached to each of the vertical spool
pins.
1. Raise the presser foot so that the thread tension
discs are open and the thread can slide easily
between them.
2. Raise the needle so that the thread can be easily
inserted into the thread take-up lever.
3. Lock screen and sewing functions.
4. Place the spool on the center vertical spool pin.
5. Pull the thread upward and through the two thread
guides lying vertically above it in the thread guide.
6. Guide the thread through the thread eyelet from
right to left.
7. Hold the thread with your right hand and, with
your left hand, pull the thread taut under and
through the thread guide to the front of the
machine.
8. Guide the thread on the right downward past the
thread tension disc.
9. Guide the lower thread upward around the thread
take-up lever cover.
10. Guide the thread through the thread take-up lever
and guide it downward. Make sure that the thread
is guided under the left side panel.
