A digital representation of the requested output waveform is sampled, converted to an
analog signal and amplified. The D to A conversion process and subsequent amplification
introduces a phase shift and the output at the binding posts lags the digitally generated
waveform. Figure 7-1 is a stylized representation of the relationship between the Phase
Reference, the digitally sampled waveform and the analog output signal.

The objective of phase calibration adjustment is to remove the phase offset between the
Phase Reference and the analog output signal. Figure 7-2 shows the digitally sampled
waveform phase shifted to align the analog output to the Phase Reference. In practice
there will be a small residual phase error determined by the accuracy of measurement.
