4-10. Soft Start
The Soft Start feature reduces the likelihood of internal over-voltage/current-detector
trips caused by inrush current. Inrush current occurs when a device connected to the
voltage terminals takes its operating power from the Instrument voltage signal. As the
power supply smoothing capacitors begin to charge very high, short duration peaks of
current are taken from the Instrument. This levels off to a low level once the capacitors
reach operating voltage. The soft start ramp-up period can be set between 0 and 10
seconds as required.
The Energy mode warm up period should exceed the soft start ramp period to avoid
energy counting inaccuracy.
4-11. Units and Standards
The Units and Standards softkey gives access to settings for phase angle (degrees or
Radians), timing for dips (seconds or phase angle), flicker (2003 edition of 61000-4-15 or
the latest) and the calculation method for three phase systems unbalance (NEMA or IEC).
