SECTION 2—SAFETY INSPECTION
NOTE:Everysixmonthsandasnecessary,takeyourwheelchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianfora
thoroughinspectionandservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhance
thesmoothoperationofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbe
caredforjustlikeanyothervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyour
wheelchair.
Inspection/Set-up Checklist
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureneedsand
preference.
WARNING
After ANY adjustments, repair or service and BEFORE use, make sure all attaching
hardware is tightened securely - otherwise injury or damage may result.
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and
wear and should be replaced.
❑ Ensurewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑ Ensureallhardwareistight.
❑ Inspectbentorprotrudingmetalonclothingguards.
❑ Ensureallfastenersonclothingguardsaresecure.
❑ Ensurearmsaresecurebuteasytoreleaseandadjustmentleversengageproperly.
❑ Ensureadjustableheightarmsoperateandlocksecurely.
❑ Ensurearmrestpadsitsflushagainstarmtube.
❑ Inspectseatand/orbackupholsteryforrips.
❑ Ensurebackmountingplateattachinghardwareissecurelytightened.
❑ Ensurehandgripsarenotloose.
❑ Ensuresealedbearingsandaxlenuttensioniscorrect.
❑ Inspectforexcessivesidemovementorbindingwhenrearwheelsareliftedandspun.
❑ Ensurequick/quad‐releaseaxleslockproperly.
❑ Inspecthandrimsforsignsofroughedgesorpeelingfinish.
❑ Inspectforbrokenspokes.
❑ Ensurewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertensionwhencasterisspun.Castershould
cometoagradualstop.
