MMC Smart Drive Hardware Manual - SYSTEM POWER DEVICES
W x T = Watts/sec or Joules
where:
W is watts from Step 1 above,
T is decel time required by the application
3. Obtain the Absorption Energy in Joules for the drive from the Specifications sec-
tion of the drive manual.
4. Determine the Peak Shunt Power from the drive that would be delivered to the
shunt resistor for your application:
(Number calculated in Step 2 above) - (Absorption Energy from the drive
Specifications table in either Chapter 5 or 6)
= Watt-seconds
(Watt-seconds computed in 5a. above) (Decel Time for the application) =
Peak Shunt Power in Watts
5. Determine the Continuous Shunt Power that would be delivered to the shunt
resistor for this application:
Duty Cycle of Peak or Peak x Decel Time) (Total Cycle Time) = Continuous
Shunt Power in Watts
6. Choose an external shunt from Table 4-12.
