OnSlipperyRoadSurfaces
Aswithmanyaspectsofoperatingaheavy-dutyvehicle,specialcareshouldbetakenwhen
usingtheMACKPowerLeash™EngineBrakeonslipperyroadsurfaces.Thepotentialfor
unpredictablelossofvehicletractionisaseriousconcern;insomesituationstheengine
shouldnotbeusedatall.
Asalways,approachuntesteddrivingconditionswithcaution.AvoiduseoftheMACK
PowerLeash™EngineBrakeinthesesituationsuntilyouhavegainedsomeexperience
undernormaldrivingconditions.
Asarule,makesurethatthevehicleisdemonstratinggoodtractabilitywiththeenginebrake
offbeforecheckingfortractabilitywiththeenginebrakeenabled.Then,providedtrafc
conditionsaresafefor"testing"tractability,switchtheMACKPowerLeash™EngineBrake
totheLOWposition.Ifthevehicleshowsanysignsoflossofcontrol(ABSactivationor
vehicleswerving,forexample),immediatelyswitchtheenginebrakebacktotheOFF
position.

OnlyifthevehicledemonstratesgoodcontrolintheLOWposition(again,onlyinsafe
drivingconditions)shouldyoutestintheHIGHposition,ifdesired.ReturntotheLOW
positionandproceedwithcautionifthereisanysignoflossvehiclecontrol.
Note:Alwaysmonitorvehicletractabilityinslipperyroadconditions,andmakeadjustments
toenginebrakeswitchpositionandvehiclespeedasnecessary.AlwaystesttheLOWpower
positionsettingbeforemovingtotheHIGHposition.

DonotenabletheMACKPowerLeash™
EngineBrakeduringbobtailoperations,or
whenoperatingonslipperyroadswithan
emptyorlightlyloadedtrailer.
