Double-Clutching
Double-clutchingisawaytobringthespeedofthetransmissiongearsintosynchronization
sothattheshiftcanbemadewithoutaclash.Theengineisusedtospeedupthecountershaft
foradownshiftandtoslowitdownforanupshift.
Note:Forallnonsynchronizedtransmissions,double-clutchingisnecessaryondownshifts
andupshifts.Itisadvisabletousethetorque-limitingclutchbraketoengagerstand
REVERSEgearsandtodouble-clutchforgearratiochanges.
1DepresstheclutchpedalandshifttoNEUTRAL.
2Releasetheclutchpedalandincrease(downshift)ordecrease(upshift)enginespeeduntil
itroughlycorrespondstotheroadspeedofthedesiredgear.
3Depresstheclutchpedalandcompletetheshift.Thenreleasetheclutchpedal.
POWERTAKE-OFF(PTO)OPERATION
IfthevehicleisequippedwithaPowerTake-Off(PTO)unit,besuretoreadthefollowing
section.
PTOPrecautions
DANGER
PowerTake-Off(PTO)unitsandrelated
equipmentcanbeverydangerous.Any
PTOinstallation,repairorreplacement
shouldincludeawarningindicatorlight
whichindicatesPTOengagement.The
lightmustbelocatedclosetothePTO
controlandclearlyvisibletotheoperator.
DANGER
PTOunitsaredrivenbyengineor
drivetraincomponents(ywheel,
crankshaft,transmission).Donotattempt
toservicethePTOandrelatedunitsunless
theengineisshutdown.
DANGER
Alwayskeepbodypartsandloose-tting
clothingoutoftherangeofdrivetrain
components,orpersonalinjurymayresult.
DANGER
AlwaysbeawareofthecurrentPTOstatus
(engagedordisengaged)andtheposition
ofthevehiclebody(dumpbodycontrolled
byPTO,etc.).Besuretodisengagethe
PTOwhennotinuse.
