StartingMPEngines
Usethefollowingprocedure:
1.Cranktheengineuntilitstarts.
Note:DoNOTapplythethrottlepedalduringenginecranking.
CAUTION
DONOTengagethestartingmotortoo
soonafteranincompletestartofthe
engine,orthestartermaybedamaged.
Waitatleastvesecondsbeforeattempting
torestarttheengine.
Iftheenginedoesnotstartimmediately,
limitcrankingperiodsto30seconds
toavoidoverheatinganddamagingthe
starter.
DONOTrevtheengineatstart-up.
Turbochargerdamagemayresult.
Lubricantsneedtimetoestablishalm
betweenmovingparts.
2.Aftertheenginehasstarted,warmtheengineuntilthecoolanttemperaturereaches
normaloperatingrange(77°Cto107°C;170°Fto225°F).Oncetheenginereachesthis
temperature,itcanbeoperatedinanormalfashion.
Note:Warm-uptimecanbereducedbyincreasingengineidlespeedbetween1000and
1200rpmbyeitherapplyingthethrottlepedalorbyusingtheElectronicHandThrottle
feature(ifequipped).
Note:Forbobtailorunloadedapplications,theenginemaybewarmedupbymovingthe
vehiclewith"light"throttleapplicationafteronlyoneminuteofidle.
PrimingtheMPFuelSystem
DANGER
Beforeworkingonorinspectinga
vehicle,settheparkingbrakes,placethe
transmissioninneutralandblockthe
wheels.Failuretodosocanresultin
unexpectedvehiclemovementandcan
causeseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
