Todelivertheappropriateamountoftorquetothedrivingwheels,MACKoffers
dual-reductioncarriersinavarietyofratios.
MACKTrucks,offersalargevarietyoffour-wheel-drivetandemaxleswithtop-mounted,
dual-reductioncarriers(forstraightlinethroughdrive).Carriersarealsoavailablein
alargenumberofratios.
Allfour-wheel-drivetandemcarriersareavailablewiththeMACKinter-axlepowerdivider
thirddifferential(withorwithoutapowerdividerlockout).
MACKrearaxlesaredesignedsotheentireloadiscarriedbytheaxlehousing(throughthe
wheelbearingsmountedonthehousingspindle).Therearaxleshaftsareeitherfree-splined
(bothends)orintegralangetype.Bothtypesofaxleshaftscanberemovedwithout
removingordisturbingtherearwheels.
Toavoidexcessivetyrewear,propermaintenancemustbepracticedandrearaxletyres
mustbematched.
CAUTION
Themaximumsafeoperatingoil
temperatureforaMACKrearaxleis
121°C(250°F)formineral-basedoil,
and148°C(300°F)forsynthetic-based
oil.Continuedoperationwithoilabove
thistemperaturewillresultinrapid
deteriorationoftheoil’slubricating
propertiesandisNOTrecommended.
