Rather,SCRisanaftertreatmentsystemwhichconvertsNOxintheexhauststreaminto
harmlessgases.Moderndieselsalreadyuseexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,calleddiesel
particulatelters,tocontrolemissionsofanotherpollutant,soot(alsoknownasparticulate
matterorPM).
SCRworksbyinjectingDieselExhaustFluid(DEF)intotheexhaust.DEFisasolutionof
ultra-purewaterandurea.DEFworkswiththeheatoftheexhaustandacatalysttoconvert
NOxintonitrogenandwatervapor-twoharmlessandnaturalcomponentsoftheairwe
breathe.Theendresultiscleanerair,excellentfuelefciencyandareliableemissions
controlsystemfortoday’smoderndieselengine.
