TheT310unitisarange-shiftedtransmissionwhichhas10forward"highway"speeds.
ThistransmissionfeaturesaLOandHIauxiliarycompoundsectioncontrolledbyanair
shiftrangeselectorlocatedontheshiftlever.Thecompoundsectionisequippedwitha
synchronizertofacilitateLO-/HI-rangeshifting.
TheLOrangeprovidesvelowratios.Neverattempttomovethevehiclefromastopped
positioninanygearhigherthanfourthspeedgear.Dependingonload,grade,orroad
conditions,itmaybenecessarytostartinrst,second,thirdorfourthspeedgears.InHI
rangethereareveforwardgearsthatcanbeshiftedinthestandardmanner.Always
remember,however,todoubleclutchwhethermovingupordownthroughthesegears.
ReversegearcanbeusedinLOrangeonly.
Upshift—WiththeshiftleverinNEUTRAL,iptheairshiftrangeselectordownto
LOrange.Thenshiftthetransmissionintorstgear.Shiftuptosecond,third,fourthand
fthspeedgears,doubleclutchingbetweenthegears.WhenmaximumengineRPMhas
beenreachedinfthgear,iptheairshiftrangeselectoruptoHIrange(preselect).Then
movetheshiftleverthroughNEUTRALtosixthgear.Astheshiftleverpassesthrough
NEUTRAL,thetransmissionisplacedintoHirange.Continuefollowingthenormal
sequence(7-8-9-10),beingsuretodoubleclutchfromonegeartothenext.
Downshift—Shiftfrom10thspeedgeardownthroughtheHIrange(9-8-7-6),double
clutchingthrougheachgear.Whilestillinsixthspeedgear,iptheairshiftrangeselector
downtoLOrange(preselect).ThenmovetheshiftleverthroughNEUTRALtofthspeed
gear.AstheshiftleverpassesthroughNEUTRAL,thetransmissionisplacedintoLOrange.
Then,shiftdowntofourth,third,secondandrstspeedgears,doubleclutchingbetween
allgears.
