hazard.Anaccidentcanbeavoidedbyrecognizingpotentiallyhazardoussituationsbefore
adangeroussituationoccurs.Correctlyperformedserviceproceduresarecriticalfor
techniciansafetyandsafe,reliableoperationofthevehicle.

Donotoperatetheengineinanenclosedarea.Allinternalcombustionenginesgiveoff
variousfumesandgaseswhilerunning.Inhalationofexhaustfumescancausedeath.

Donotsitinaparkedvehicleforanyextendedamountoftimewiththeenginerunningif
thereareleaksintheexhaustsystem.Exhaustfumescouldleakintothecabareaanddeath
canresult.Onaregularbasisinspecttheexhaustsystemforleaksandrepairanyleakage.

Driverattitudeisthemostimportantpartofanyeffectivevehiclesafetysystem.MACK
Trucks,stronglyencouragesalldriversandpassengerstousetheirseatbelts,drive
defensively,remainalertandrespectthespeedlimits.Manyaccidentscanalsobeavoided

usebrushesandsqueegeesmountedonextensionpoles.Whenbetteraccessisnecessary
(forinstance,whenwashingthecabroof),usesturdyladdersheldinplacebysomeone
ontheground.
