COUPLINGATRAILER
1.Positionthetractordirectlyinfrontofthetrailer.
2.Backthetrailerslowlyuntilthefthwheeljustcontactsthetrailerplate.
3.Placethetransmissioninneutralandapplytheparkingbrakes.
4.Connectthetrailergladhandsandelectricalconnector.
CAUTION
Makesurethetrailerairlinesandthetrailerelectricalcordareproperlysupportedsothey
willnotbepinchedorcaughtwhilethetractorisbeingbackedunderthetrailer.
5.Checkthatthefthwheelheightmatchestheheightoftheundersideofthetrailer.Ifthe
traileristoohigh,usethelandinggeartolowerthetraileruntilfthwheelandtrailerheight
match.Ifthevehicleisequippedwithanairsuspensionandthetraileristoolow,usethe
airsuspensioncontrolswitchtoexhaustairfromthesuspensionairbagsuntilfthwheel
andtrailerheightmatch.
CAUTION
Failuretomatchfthwheelheightwith
trailerheightwillresultinthetrailerbeing
improperlyconnected.
6.Backunderthetrailerslowlyuntilthetrailerkingpinengages.Backslowlytoavoid
hittingthekingpintoohard,andstopassoonasthekingpinislockedintothefthwheel.
7.Ifequippedwithanairsuspension,usetheairsuspensioncontrolswitchtoreinate
thesuspensionairbags.
8.Raisethetrailerlandinggearslightlyofftheground.
9.Withthetrailerparkingbrakesapplied,pullthetractoraheadslightlytoensurethatthe
trailerislockedontothetractor.
10.Pushthetrailerairsupplyvalve(redoctagonalknob)intosupplythetrailersystemwith
airpressure.Withtheairsystematnormaloperatingpressure,checkthetrailerairbrake
systemforexcessiveleakageandproperoperation.
11.Inspectthecouplingtoensurethetrailerisproperlyconnected.Makesurethereisno
spacebetweenthefthwheelandthetrailerplateandthatthefthwheeljawshaveclosed
aroundtheshankofthekingpin.Checkthatthelockingleverisinthe"lock"positionand
makesurethesafetylatchisinpositionoverthelockinglever.
12.Afterensuringthatthetrailerisproperlyconnected,raisethelandinggeartoits
maximumheight.
13.Ifwheelchockswereplacedatthetrailerwheels,removethechocksandstore.
