16.9.20.4 SERIAL INFRARED INTERACTION PULSES.
To guarantee nondisruptive
coexistence with slower (a maximum of 115.2Kb/s) systems, once a high-speed (above
115.2Kb/s) connection has been established the high-speed system must emit a serial
infrared interaction pulse (SIP) at least once every 500ms. This continues for the duration
of the connection to quiet slower systems that might interfere with the link. The pulse is
illustrated in Figure 16-104.
The serial infrared interaction pulse can be generated in two ways:
By the software when you set the GS bit in IRSIP register.
By the Timer 2 expiration when you set the TS bit in the IRSIP register.
You are responsible for creating the appropriate SIP waveform by writing the proper values
to the SLL and SHL fields of the IRSIP register.
