To determine the required O

input flow:
1) Find the desired FIO
2
(bottom of chart).
2) Calculate the patient’s minute ventilation rate by using the following formula: Tidal volume x
breath rate.
3) Follow the FIO
2
up to the applicable slanted VE (minute volume) line (right side of chart).
4) Read across horizontally to the left side of chart to the required Input O
2
Flow (lpm).
To determine the delivered O
2
concentration:
1) Find the Input O
2
Flow (left side of chart).
2) Follow the Input O
2
Flow across horizontally to the right to the applicable slanted VE (minute
volume) line.
3) Read down to the FIO
2
(bottom of chart).
