Optional, user-defined param eter. It is useful when an
application has more than one drive. It is recomm ended that
you provide a nam e for t he drive that reflects the function it
performs, such as Axis-1.
7 .3 Mot or I de ntifica tion
Motor selection and properties are presented and confirmed in Ste p 2 of the
Motor Setup wizard.
The ServoStudio Motor t ask screen allows you to define and initialize t he m ot or.
You can easily select the motor family and motor part number from the
ServoStudio databases (m otor libraries) and ServoStudio will prepare the
appropriate motor and feedback param et ers.
If your m otor is not listed in the default set of motor libraries, use the N e w
M ot or wizard to define a new m otor.
The following param eter is used to view and configure m ot or identity:

MOTORNAME
If the motor is selected from a library in the ServoStudio
dat abase, the name is aut omat ically assigned. Mot or nam es
can also be assigned and m odified by users.
The motor name always begins with a quotation mark ().

7 .4 Mot or I nit ialization
Motor comm utation is perform ed in St e p 2 of the Motor Setup wizard.
The com mand MOTORSETUP initiates a quick com m issioning procedure for
setting the parameters that define motor commutation.
In the ServoStudio Motor screen, use the Ver ify and Stop buttons to start and
st op the MOTORSETUP process.
During the initialization process, the rotary m otor moves forward/backward
about t wo mechanical revolutions in forced comm utation, which does not require
feedback. MOTORSETUP detects the state of Hall switches, index position and
polarity, the order of the electrical phases, the direction of m otor movem ent,
and the feedback resolution per electrical revolution.
Based on the data collected, the drive updates the param eters MFBDIR,
MPHASE, MPOLES, MENCRES and MENCZPOS, making it possible to begin
working with the motor and wiring that are connected to the drive.
If the procedure fails, the original values of MFBDI R, MPHASE, MPOLES,
MENCRES and MENCZPOS will be restored.
N ot es:
Not all param eters are updated by the procedure. I t depends which
param eters are in use, as determined by MENCTYPE.
The value of MICONT is very important, since this value sets the lim it for the
current used during the procedure.
