52 Managing Connectivity with Base Stations

Additional parameters can be configured remotely through the wireless link.
1. Connect a computer to the device and log in to the management interface. For more information, refer to
Section2.2, “Logging In” .
2. Configure the scanner and connect to the base station. For more information, refer to Section5.2.1,
“Configuring the Scanner” .
3. Configure the IP address for the device. For more information, refer to Section5.14, “Configuring Network IP
Addresses” .
4. Verify the device is operational. This can be done by reviewing the statistics. For more information, refer to
Section3.3.1, “Viewing General Statistics” .
5. View the service flow information and make sure the service flows are created. For more information, refer to
Section3.3.4, “Viewing and Clearing Service Flow Statistics” .
6. Log out of the management interface. For more information, refer to Section2.3, “Logging Out” .

Configuring the Scanner
Use the scanner to set the Carrier to Interference + Noise Ratio (CINR) threshold value and define the scanning
frequencies for the device. The device uses this information to scan for and locate available base stations.
During the scan, the device builds a table of detected base stations. If the device finds a base station with a CINR
greater than the user-defined threshold, it stops the scan and connects to the base station immediately. This
technique reduces scanning time.
The Scanner Table lists the frequencies scanned by the device to locate its base station.
The Scan Report field displays a list of base stations located by the scan. The list includes the following
information for each base station:
the base station ID
the base station frequency
the base station bandwidth
