•Cablescontaininginsulationmaterialswithdifferent
maximum-ratedconductortemperaturesshouldnotbe
bunchedtogether(thatis,inacommonclip,gland,conduitor
duct).Whenthisisimpractical,thecablesmustbecarefully
arrangedsuchthatthemaximumtemperatureexpectedin
anycableinthegroupiswithinthespecicationsofthe
lowest-ratedcable.
•Cableswithprotectivecoveringswhichmaydamageother
cablesshouldnotbegroupedwithothercables.
•Cableshavingacoppersheathorbraidingmustbeinstalled
insuchawaythatgalvaniccorrosionbycontactwithother
metalsisprevented.
•Toallowforfutureexpansionofthesystem,allcablesshould
beallocatedspareconductorpairs.Also,spacewithinthe
vesselshouldbesetasidefortheinstallationofextracables.
RadioFrequencyinterference
Allcablesthataretobepermanentlyinstalledwithin9m(30
ft)ofanysourceofRadioFrequency(RF)interferencesuchas
atransmitteraerialsystemorradiotransmitters,must,unless
shieldedbyametaldeckorbulkhead,beadequatelyscreenedby
sheathing,braidingorothersuitablematerial.Insuchasituation
exiblecablesshouldbescreenedwhereverpossible.
Itisimportantthatcables,otherthanthosesupplyingservicesto
theequipmentinstalledinaradioroom,arenotinstalledthrough
aradioroom,highpowerswitchgearorotherpotentialsources
ofinterference.Cableswhichmustpassthrougharadioroom
mustbescreenedbyacontinuousmetalconduitortrunking
whichmustbebondedtothescreeningoftheradioroomatits
pointsofentryandexit.
Physicalprotection
Cablesexposedtotheriskofphysicaldamagemustbeenclosed
inasteelconduitorprotectedbyametalcasingunlessthecable’s
covering(e.g.armourorsheath)issufcienttoprotectitfrom
thedamagerisk.
Cablesexposedtoanexceptionalriskofmechanicaldamage
(forexampleinholds,storage-spacesandcargo-spaces)mustbe
protectedbyasuitablecasingorconduit,evenwhenarmoured,
ifthecablecoveringdoesnotguaranteesufcientprotectionfor
thecables.
Metallicmaterialsusedforthephysicalprotectionofcablesmust
besuitablyprotectedagainstcorrosion.
