Circuitboardsaredelicateitems.Theymayworkyearafteryear
inanadvancedproduct,butthenfailduetoasmallsparkof
staticelectricity.Forthisreason,itisveryimportantthattheyare
properlyhandledandprotectedduringshipping.
BewareofESD!
Whenyouhandleelectroniccircuitboards,youmustbewareof
thedangersofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD),bothtoyourselfand
totheequipment.Inordertoensuresafetransportandstorage,
circuitboardsandotherelectronicunitswillalwaysbewrapped
inaclearplasticprotectivebag,andthebagwillbesealed.See

Unpackingandhandlingcircuitboards
Tounpackacircuitboard:
•Whereverpossible,prepareasuitableworkbench.Itmust
haveanapprovedconductiveservicemat,anditmustbe
connecteddirectlytoareliableearthpointviaitsearthing
cord.Youmustwearawristbandindirectcontactwiththe
skin,andthewristbandmustbeconnectedtotheservicemat.
•Liftthecircuitboard,initsprotectivebag,outofthecarton
andplaceitinastablepositionontheaoor/workbench.
•Inspecttheunitfordamagebeforeyouopentheplasticbag.
•Donotbreakthesealtoopenacircuitboardpackagebefore
theboardshalltobeused.Iftheboardpackageisreturned
withthesealbroken,wewillassumethatthecontenthasbeen
used,andwewillbillyouaccordingly.
•Assumingalliswell,openthebagandremovetheunit.
•Takeoutandkeepthedocumentation.Youwillneeditif
thecircuitboardshallbereturnedtous.Also,removeany
packinganddesiccantmaterialthatmaybeinside.
•Keeptheprotectiveplasticbagforfutureuse.
