APPENDIXB—EQUIPMENTHANDLING
Thissectionprovidesthebasicrulesfortransportation,storage
andhandlingofunits.Inthiscontext,aunitmaybeanylargeor
smallpartofthesystem.Itcanbesuppliedaspartoftheinitial
delivery,orasasparepart.
Transportation
Unlessotherwisestatedintheaccompanyingdocumentation,
electronic,electro-mechanicalandmechanicalunitssupplied
bySimradcanbetransportedusingallmethodsapprovedfor
delicateequipment;(byroad,rail,airorsea).Theunitsaretobe
transportedinaccordancewithgeneralorspecicinstructionsfor
theappropriateunit(s),usingpallets,transportcases,orcarton
boxesasappropriate.
Note
Speciallocalrestrictionsconcerningairtransportationmaybe
appliedtounitscontainingcertaintypesofbatteries.These
unitsmustbecheckedproperly,andtheregulationsmustbe
investigatedbythepacker/shipperbeforetheunitisdispatched.
Alllocaltransportationmustbecarriedoutaccordingtothesame
specicationsasfortheinitialdelivery.Ingeneral,allunitsmust
behandledwithcare.
Thecartonorcasecontainingtheunitmustbekeptdryatall
times,andmustbeshelteredfromtheweather.Itmustnot
besubjectedtoshocks,excessivevibrationorotherrough
handling.Thecartonorcasewillnormallybemarkedwithtext
orsymbolsindicatingwhichwayitistobeplaced.Followany
instructionsgiven,andensurethecaseisalwaysplacedwithits
“top”uppermost.
Thecartonorcasemustnotbeusedforanypurposeforwhichit
wasnotintended(step,table,etc.),andintheabsenceofother
information,noothercartonsorcasesmustbestackedontop
ofit.
Lifting
Aheavycratewillnormallybemarkedwithitsweight,andthe
weightsofothercartonsorcrateswillnormallybeenteredon
thepackinglist.
•Youmustalwayschecktheweightofacratebeforeyou
attempttoliftit.
•Youmustalwaysuseliftingapparatusthatisapprovedand
certiedfortheload.
