Mechanicalunits
Ifamechanicalunitmayhasbeenexposedtoasaltatmosphere
whileitwasinuse,itmustbethoroughlycleanedbothinternally
andexternallytopreventcorrosion.
1Iftheconstructionmaterialsandtypeofunitpermits,wash
theunitusingahigh-pressurehoseandcopiousamounts
offreshwater.Examplesarethelowerpartsofhullunits
(outsidethehull)orsubseaunits
2Ensurethatalltracesofmudandmarinegrowthare
removed.Useawoodenorplasticscrapertoremove
persistentgrowth,barnaclesetc.Oncompletion,drythe
unitthoroughly.
Caution
Donotuseahighpressurehoseinthevicinityof
cablesortransducers.Donotusesharpormetal
toolsonatransducerface.
3Ifthematerialsortypeofunitpreventstheuseofa
high-pressurehose,wipetheunitusingaclothdampened
withwatercontainingalittledetergent.Examplesarethe
upperpartsofhullunits(insidethehull)andhydraulic
systems
4Donotuseexcessiveamountsofwaterassomecomponents
ontheunitmaynotbewatertight.Wipeoffthedetergent
withadampcloth,thendrytheunitthoroughly.
5Allsurfacesmustbeinspectedforsignsofcorrosion,
aking/bubblingpaint,stainsetc.Damagedorsuspect
areasmustbecleaned,preparedandpreservedusingthe
correctpreservationmediums.Themediumstobeusedwill
normallybedenedintheunit’smaintenancemanual.
Cables
Wipecleanallexposedcables,andcheckfordamage.Ifacable
showssignsofwearorageing,contactSimradforadvice.
Internalbatteries
Iftheunitcontainsbatteries,thesemaydischargeslowlyduring
storage.Iftheunitistobestoredforanextendedperiod,
disconnectorremoveallinternalbatteries.
