Basic operation 2-21
Although FlexCut was designed for use with standard vinyl (typical two-layered material), it can also
be used with single-layered material. In this case the settings of the parameters are more difficult
and require more trial-and-error tests than calibrating FlexCut for normal vinyl.
The only parameter that can be determined easily is Full pressure. The Flex pressure is very material-
dependent. Plastics require a relatively high Flex pressure, whereas fibrous materials require a
relatively low Flex pressure.
The Flex pressure length of plastic substrates is then relatively short, whereas fibrous substrates
require longer bridges to keep the material together to be able to move it back and forth.
The principle, however, is the same. The parameters must be set so that the bridges are strong (long)
enough to move the material back and forth without tearing, but small enough to be practically
invisible once the object is removed from the material.
An additional help could be adjusting the panel size. For very weak material, reduce the panel size.
Overall, correct parameter setting for single-layered material takes a little longer.
