10. Remove alternator (3).
Installation Notes
• Install the alternator by reversing the order of
removal.
• Adjust fan belt tension. (Refer to “Safety, Operation,
and Maintenance Manual.”)
Starter Motor
Removal and Installation
See Figure 4-59.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Raise the hood.
3. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable at the
battery.

NOTE
Label all wires before disconnecting to ensure correct
installation.
4. Disconnect wire connectors (4, 5, 6, and 7) from the
starter motor (1).
5. Support the starter motor (1).
6. Remove screw (3) and nut (2).
7. Remove starter motor.
Installation Note
Install the starter motor by reversing the order of removal.
Instrument Panel
Removal and Installation
See Figure 4-60.
NOTE
If servicing individual components, it is not necessary to
completely remove the instrument panel. In most cases,
the instrument panel can be moved aside for access to
components.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
NOTE
Label all wires before disconnecting to ensure correct
installation.
2. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable at the
battery.
3. If removing the instrument panel, disconnect the
positive (+) battery cables from the battery.

NOTE
If moving the instrument panel aside, use caution to
prevent stretching or kinking the wires.
4. Remove four threaded knobs (4).
5. Remove six screws (1), lock washers (2), and flat
washers (3).
6. Lift the instrument panel (7) up to clear the edge of
the console wall (6); then rotate the instrument panel
counterclockwise to align the four levers (8) with the
four slots (5).
7. Lift and move the instrument panel aside or service
components as needed.
