16. Align end cover (15) to housing (23) and install
special screws (12) into ports “T,” “P,” “L,” and “R.”
Install special screw (13) into port “E” (29). Tighten
screws in an alternating pattern to 20–24 lb-ft (27–33
N·m).
NOTES
• Place cover so that the hole marked “P” lines up with
port “P” in the housing.
• Special screw (13) (with no oil flow connection) must
be fitted in port “E” (32).
17. Remove the steering unit from the service fixture and
install steering relief valve (25) and steering relief
valve spring (26).
Steering Column
Removal and Installation
See Figure 7-22.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Remove the steering wheel (See “Steering Wheel”
on page 7-8.)

3. Using the tilt lever, tilt the steering column forward.
4. Disengage tilt cable (12).
5. Remove screw (13) and nut (14).
6. Remove nut (1) and gas spring (2).
7. Remove four screws (4) and lock washers (5).
8. Remove two screws (7) and lock washers (8).
9. Support steering column (3) and steering unit (9).
10. Remove four screws (10), four lock washers (11), and
steering unit (9).
11. Lower steering column (3) through steering unit
bracket (6) and remove steering column from
machine.
Installation Notes
• Install the steering column by reversing the order of
removal.
• Do not overtighten nut (1). Gas spring must pivot
freely.
