Assembly Notes
•
• Adjust brake pedal switch so contacts are closed with
the brake engaged and open as soon as the brake
pedal is pressed.
• Clean grease fitting (22) before and after lubricating.
• Lubricate grease fitting with grease that meets or
exceeds NLGI Grade 2 LB specifications. Apply
grease with a manual grease gun and fill slowly until
grease begins to seep out. Do not use compressed
air gun.
• Apply Loctite 242 (Blue) to two screws (18), four nuts
(19), eight nuts (24), and lock nut (2) before
assembly.
Brake Caliper Assembly
Removal and Installation
See Figures 9-37 through 9-39.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Remove front wheel. (See “Front Wheels” on
page 9-18.)

3. Disengage return spring (8) from caliper lever (9).
4. Remove cotter pin (2), clevis pin (3), and brake cable
(1).
5. Remove screw (5), lock washer (6), and flat washers
(4 and 7).

6. Remove two screws (12), flat washers (13), and nuts
(14).
7. Remove two screws (16), two washers (17), two nuts
(18), spacer (15), and brake mount (19).
8. Remove brake caliper (10) and caliper mounting
plate (19) assembly from the machine.

9. Remove two screws (20) and brake caliper (10) from
caliper mounting plate (19).
10. Remove screw (24), retaining clip (23), washer (22),
and brake lever (21).
11. Inspect brake pads for excessive or uneven wear.
Replace as a set if necessary.
12. Repeat steps 2 through 11 for other side of machine.
