4WD Option Rear Axle
Removal and Installation
See Figure 7-32.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)

2. Remove the steering cylinder (1). (See “4WD Option
Steering Cylinder” on page 7-21.)
3. Lift the rear of the mower so the rear wheels are
approximately 2-3 in. (51-76 mm) off the
ground.Support the mower frame using jack stands.
4. Remove the rear wheels (2). (See “Rear Wheels” on
page 9-11.)
5. Remove the rear wheel motor (3). (See “Rear Wheel
Motor” on page 5-60.)
6. Remove and discard cotter pin (4).
7. Remove castle nut (5) and washer (6).
8. Support the rear axle (7).
9. Remove axle shaft (8) and axle plate (9).
10. Lower the rear axle (7) out of the mower frame.
11. Remove the tie rod assembly (10).
Installation Notes
• Install the rear axle assembly by reversing the order
of removal.
• Inspect all ball joints for wear or torn dust seals.
• Use a new cotter pin (4).
• Check hydraulic oil level. Add oil as needed.
• Start the machine and check for hydraulic leaks and
cylinder operation. Repair as necessary.
Prevent personal injury. Use a properly rated
lifting device. Always be sure the load is
balanced before lifting.
