Steering Unit
Removal and Installation
See Figures 7-15 through 7-17.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
If available, use a portable hydraulic filtering unit to
remove the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank. Place
the filtering unit suction hose in the tank, and pump the
oil into a clean and sealable container.
2. Remove the steering column cover. (See “Steering
Tower Cover” on page 7-7.)
3. Remove the steering wheel. (See “Steering Wheel”
on page 7-7.)

• Label all hydraulic hoses and record their locations to
ensure correct installation.
• Plug hydraulic hoses after disconnecting to prevent
loss of hydraulic oil.
4. Disconnect five hydraulic hoses (1) from bottom of
steering unit.
5. Lift up on rubber bellows (2) to access mounting
screws.
6. Support the steering column (4).
7. Remove four internal hex screws (3).
8. Lift steering column (4) off the operator platform.

9. Remove four screws (5), four lock washers (6), and
steering unit (7).
Installation Notes
• Install the steering column by reversing the order of
removal.
• Apply Loctite 243 (Blue) threadlocker to screws (3).
• Assemble steering valve so port “T” is toward the
front of the mower.

• 3WD Option: Tighten hoses on Ports L and R to 11
lb-ft (15 N·m). Tighten hoses on Ports P, T and E to
17 lb-ft (23 N·m).
4WD Option: Tighten all hoses to 17 lb-ft (23 N·m).
