Purging the Fuel System
Adjustment
See Figure 3-3.
Fuel system will need to be purged of air whenever fuel
filter or fuel lines are removed, fuel tank is completely
emptied, or engine has not been used for an extended
time.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Raise the hood.
Be sure that fuel tank is filled with clean, fresh diesel fuel
before performing a purge of fuel system.

3. Place a suitable container under the filter to catch the
fuel that will flow from the screw hole. Loosen the air
vent screw (1) at the top of the filter by turning it
counterclockwise two turns.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the on position to allow the
fuel pump to operate.
5. When the bubbles disappear from fuel coming out of
the air vent screw hole, tighten air vent screw and
turn ignition switch to the off position.
6. Loosen the air vent screw (2) on the injection pump
by turning it counterclockwise two turns.
7. Crank engine over for approximately 10 seconds.
8. When bubbles no longer appear in fuel coming out of
the air vent screw hole, tighten air vent screw.
9. Turn ignition switch to the off position.
Do not purge fuel system when engine is hot.
The engine may start during this process. Be
careful of injury due to moving components. If
the engine starts, continue purging the fuel
system.
