10 The BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler
This section provides an overview of the BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler that includes: a
description of the system components, a discussion of how slide results are classified and
interpreted, and information about how slides are ranked. Refer to the following sections:

10.1 BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler Overview
This section provides a brief overview of the following aspects of the BD FocalPoint™ Slide
Profiler:
• Description of the workstation and instrument components
• Slide processing and classification
• Slide ranking
• Slide results and slide reports
10.1.1 System Components
The BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler consists of two main components: the workstation (Main
Window) and the instrument (slide profiler). The workstation components (computer, monitor,
keyboard, mouse, modem (or router), and printer) are mounted on a mobile cart. The instrument
is a floor-standing unit. The instrument and workstation are connected to each other with data
and electrical cables.
