8.40 Double NAT
The Double NAT process offers the opportunity to establish communication
links between non-CIDR-compatible devices located in different networks.
These devices have no way to specify a default gateway or default route. The
NAT router virtually “shifts” the devices into the other network. To do this, the
NAT router replaces the source address and the destination address in the
data packet during sending. A typical application is the linking of controllers
located in different networks.
