3.3 LDAP
The LDAP protocol (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) allows you to 
authenticate and authorize the users at a central point in the network. A 
widely used directory service accessible through the LDAP protocol is Active 
Directory
®
.
The device forwards the log in data of the user to the authentication server 
using the LDAP protocol. The authentication server decides whether the 
login data is valid and transfers the user’s authorizations to the device.
Upon successful log on, the device saves the log on data temporarily in the 
cache. This speeds up the logon process when users logon again. In this 
case, no complex LDAP search operation is necessary.
