8.32 Destination NAT
The Destination NAT process offers the possibility to divert the data stream
of outgoing communication links to or through a server in a local network.
A special form of the Destination NAT process is port forwarding. You use
port forwarding to hide the structure of a network from the outside while still
allowing communication links from the outside into the network. A typical
application is remote control of a PC in a production cell. The maintenance
station establishes the communication link to the NAT router, and Destination
NAT takes care of the routing to the production cell.
