Complete the Handpiece Assembly
When the sterilized handpiece arrives in the operating room, you must
perform some assembly. You have the option of using a standard nosecone
or a CUSA EXcel Electrosurgical Module (CEM) nosecone with the
CUSA EXcel handpiece. If you are using a CEM generator, you must
attach a CEM nosecone to the handpiece. The CEM nosecone is sterile; you
must attach it on the sterile field.
You also have the option of attaching manifold tubing to the handpiece
cable before or after sterilization. If you chose to attach the tubing after
sterilization, you must attach it on the sterile field.
It is probable that one person will complete the handpiece assembly while
another sets up the CUSA EXcel console. Therefore, you will find the
procedures for completing the handpiece in this section.
Items Needed
You need the following items to set up the CUSA EXcel handpiece for
surgery:
• Standard nosecone or sterile CEM nosecone
• Flue
•Manifold tubing.
