O-Rings
The o-rings fit onto the connecting body in two places:
• A large o-ring fits into a groove on the handpiece housing neck.
• A smaller o-ring fits into a groove near the tip end of the connecting
body.
The o-rings provide stability for the nosecone and prevent fluid leaks into
the connecting body.
Use different colored o-rings for different frequency handpieces:
Nosecone
The nosecone attaches to the handpiece and covers the connecting body. It
serves two purposes:
• It holds the flue in place.
• It anchors the suction tube.
You can use one of two nosecones:
• Standard nosecone – nonsterile, reusable
• CUSA EXcel Electrosurgical Module (CEM) nosecone – sterile, single
use only.
If you use a CEM nosecone, you need to cover it with a switchcover. A
large red o-ring holds the switchcover in place.
The high voltage of the CEM generator, as well as the presence of
conductive saline solution and blood, present a potential safety hazard for
the user. The silicone switchcover provides a safety barrier between the
user and the activation buttons on the CEM nosecone.
