User’s Guide
10 Using Multitone and Two-Tone Waveforms
for N5172B/82B with Option 430 and 653/655/656/657
The features described in this chapter are available only in Keysight N5172B EXG and N5182B MXG
X-Series signal generators with Option 430 Multitone and Two-Tone.
Option 430 requires Option 653 or 655 (N5172B) or Option 656 or 657 (N5182B).
Before using the information in this chapter, you should be familiar with the basic operation of the
signal generator. If you are not comfortable with functions such as setting the power level and
frequency, refer to Chapter 4, “Front Panel Operation for All Models”, on page 55 and familiarize
yourself with the information in that chapter.
Creating a Custom Multitone Waveform
Multitone mode produces up to 64 continuous wave signals (or tones). Like the Two-Tone mode,
the frequency spacing between the signals and the amplitudes are adjustable.
Using the Multitone Setup table editor, you can define, modify and store user–defined multitone
waveforms. Multitone waveforms are generated by the dual arbitrary waveform generator.
The Using Multitone Softkeys on page 312 shows you how to perform the following tasks:
— Initializing the Multitone Setup Table Editor on page 312
— Configuring Tone Powers and Tone Phases on page 313
— Removing a Tone on page 313
— Generating the Waveform on page 313
— Configuring the RF Output on page 313
