Keysight EXG and MXG X-Series Signal Generators User’s Guide 345
Using Avionics VOR/ILS Softkeys for N5171B/72B and N5181B/82B with Option 302
Using VOR [VHF Omnidirectional Range] Softkeys
To set the VOR mode that produces a full or partial VOR signal
1. Press Aux Fctn > Avionics > VOR
2. Press VOR Mode
(Default selection is OFF.)
3. Select either: OFF | NORM | VAR | Sub-carrier | Sub-carrier+FM
— Selecting OFF turns off all VOR modulation. When set to OFF, all VOR mode
parameter settings are turned off, but the selected VOR carrier is still
present on the RF Output connector. To turn off this VOR carrier, set RF On
to off.
— Selecting NORM turns on all VOR signals so that a standard VOR signal is
generated with a default VOR Bearing of zero degrees.
— Selecting VAR turns on the main VOR carrier and the 30 Hz variable phase
signal (VAR Freq); suppressed the Sub-carrier.
— Selecting Sub-carrier turns on the Sub-carrier without the 30 Hz reference
signal (REF Freq); suppresses the main VOR carrier.
— Selecting Sub-carrier+FM turns on the Sub-carrier and the 30 Hz reference
signal (REF Freq); suppresses the main VOR carrier.
To set the VOR carrier frequency
1. Press Aux Fctn > Avionics > VOR
2. Press Carrier Freq Index
(Default <value> is 1 and corresponds to 108.00 MHz.)
3. Select a <value> from 1 to 160 and press Enter.
The index value that is entered sets the VOR carrier frequency to one of the
standard defined corresponding values and produces a VOR carrier.
VOR carrier frequencies range from 108.00 to 117.95 MHz at 50 kHz spacing
and can be set by selecting index values from 1 to 160.
ILS Localizer frequencies range from 108.10 - 111.95 MHz at 50 kHz spacing,
which overlaps the VOR carrier frequency range,
and can be set by selecting index values from 1 to 40.
(For information, see: “To set the ILS Localizer carrier frequency” on
page 366.)
Setting the mode back to OFF, after selecting one of the other modes
(either: NORM | VAR | Sub-carrier | Sub-carrier+FM) does not turn off the VOR
carrier, specified by Carrier Freq Index, it is still present on the RF Output of the
signal generator.
To turn off this VOR carrier, set RF On to off.
