Operating the milking robot
Chapter 5 - page 2

In addition to the above, cow dimensions are important
(figure 5.2). The total length including the cows head should be
approx. 190 cm (74.80 in.) as a minimum and approx. 250 cm
(98.42 in.) as a maximum. Maximum width is 76 cm (29.92 in.).
The robot can be adjusted to smaller animals.
5.1.2 Udder and tail shaving
Before a cow enters the robot for the first time, the bottom side
of its udder should be shaved in order to prevent the laser from
receiving a blurred image. Shaving of the udder should be
repeated as soon as the udder becomes hairy again. Should the
farmer fail to shave the udder or fail to shave the udder on time,
connection procedure may be delayed or even made
impossible. As a result, it may happen that teats which are not
allowed to be milked are connected anyway! It is therefore
recommended to shave the udders four times (4x) a year to
prevent problems.
In order to prevent the cows tail from getting stuck between the cleaning brushes during pre-treatment, the tails
plume should be cut off. It suffices to cut it off a few centimetres below the last tailbone. We recommend you to
simultaneously shave the tail above the remaining plume.
5.2 FIRST MILKING
New cows seldom enter the robot of their own accord. It takes some training to adjust these cows to the system.
New cows should always be milked under supervision the first days.
Before a cow is milked, the farmer should carry out a number of preparations. Provided these are made carefully,
the robot system will be easier to operate and ensure optimum results.
5.2.1 Entry of cow data in the computer
Cow data should have been entered in the T4C
1
/X-pert programme before the first milking is started. Optimum
efficiency is achieved by entering all cow data into the T4C/X-pert system immediately from the beginning.
Incorrect data may be difficult to change! Make sure that a feed balance is created.
