Preface
General
This manual explains the proper operation of your LELY ASTRONAUT milking robot. Study and understand these
instructions thoroughly before operating or maintaining the machine. Failure to do so could result in personal injury
or equipment damage. Consult your local Lely service provider, if you do not understand the instructions in this
manual, or need additional information.
NOTE
The instructions, illustrations, and specifications in this manual are based on the latest information available
at time of publication. Your robot may have product improvements and features (options) not yet contained
in this manual.
All information in this manual has been included with much care. Lely shall not be liable for possible damage
resulting from errors or faults, which may occur, in this manual. The recommendations are meant to serve
as guidelines.
Operation, service & maintenance instructions are included in this operator’s manual which is provided with
the milking robot. Properly store it in the supplied binder when not in use.
Certification requirements (Lely service providers)
Every technician working on an Astronaut robotic milking system on behalf of Lely has to be certified by Lely
Industries N.V. There are four different certification levels i.e.:
Installation technician (validity 2 years)
Maintenance technician (validity 2 years)
Service engineer (validity 2 years)
Product specialist (validity 1 year)
To become certified, a technician is expected to pass an exam that is based on the service manual for the
Astronaut Robotic milking system.
NOTE
In case people other than certified technicians work on the robot, warranty will lapse.
A technician in training (i.e. not yet in possession of a certificate) is allowed to work for half a year as a maximum
under the close supervision of a certified technician. Work on the milking robot will only be carried out in the
presence of a certified technician.
Examination will take place under the supervision of a product specialist during and at the end of a training course,
or at any other moment a technician has the opportunity to demonstrate his qualities. Examination will take place
partly under practical circumstances, i.e. when a robot failure has to be solved.
Lely Industries N.V. will issue the certificate, which will be accompanied by a matching service pass carrying the
name, photo, service ID No., level and expiry date. A farmer is allowed to ask a technician to show his service
pass in case the latter has to work on the robot, while the technician in turn is obliged to show his/her service pass.
The logbook at the farm has to be signed at all times after any work done by a qualified engineer, specifying his/
her name and certification number as well as the work that has been carried out. All records have to be kept in the
vicinity of the robot during its entire life.
