Chapter 5 - page 7
Operator’s manual ASTRONAUT
M-HE.002.1003
We recommend you to work with milking times in the first week and to have all the cows immediately milked by
the robot.
After a period of time allow the cows to visit the robot of their own accord, for instance, by keeping the gate open
after all the cows have been milked. Allow for a gradual increase of the time period in which the cows can be milked
independently. Hereafter only the slow cows mentioned on the alarm list should be guided through the robot.
Try to prevent that the time between two milkings for an individual cow increases to more than 14 hours.
5.3 MILKING
Milking with the robot is a continuous process. Replace the filter regularly and check your alarm lists several times
a day. Also refer to chapter 6 ’Service and maintenance’.
5.3.1 Milking session
When a cow enters the robot the following sequence of procedures are carried out in a normal situation. A number
of these procedures are carried out almost simultaneously. As soon as a cow enters the box:
• Cow detection in box
• Closing of rear gate
• Reading of responder number (optional: first identification, then closing of the rear gate)
• Retrieving of cow data
• Start feeding
• Swing-in of robot arm and cleaning brushes
• Brief pre-treatment front teats
• Pre-treatment rear teats
• Pre-treatment front teats
• Swing-back of cleaning brushes

• Detection of rear teats (laser position between front teats)
• Detection of teat Left Rear (LR) and connection

• Detection of teat Right Rear (RR) and connection

• Cleaning of brushes as soon as all cups have been connected.
• Measuring of conductivity every quarter of an hour during milking
• Check for presence of milk
• Teat cup removal as soon as the corresponding quarter is empty
• Udder spraying with spraying agent when all quarters are milked out and milkings succeeded
• Arm returns to rest status and milk tubes are sucked empty
• Cleaning of the teat cup tops
• Possible Lelywash cleaning system
