5.2.2 Attachment of cow responder/respactor
Each cow should be provided with a collar (figure 5.3) including
a responder or respactor (activity counter in combination with
identification). The number of the responder which is attached
to the cows collar should coincide with the responder’s number
in the T4C
1
/X-pert system.
Allocated figures should be readable. Therefore, the bottom
sides of both numbers should point towards the responder or
respactor. When numbering the collars, apply a logical
numbering system.
NOTE
• A respactor should be so attached to the cow that it is
turned backward (in the direction of the cows belly) with
the text turned to the front (in the direction of the cows
head). If this is not the case, the respactor will not
function properly!
5.2.3 Habituation
Give the animal the opportunity to remain a few hours in the environment of the milking robot before leading her
into the robot box. This allows her to get used to the noises and movements of the robot as well as the opening
and closing of the gates. Seeing other cows enter the box quietly will increase the confidence of the new cows.
5.2.4 Leading the cow into the box
There are two possible adjustments for closing of the rear gate, namely closing the gate as soon as the infrared
sensor, which is positioned halfway of the box, detects an object or as soon as the robot identifies the cow.
• Be aware of unexpected cow movements. A cow may convey substantial powers
beyond your control to (moving) parts of the Astronaut milking robot.
It is recommended to immediately close the rear fence upon identification in the beginning of the training period.
This allows the unsettled cow to enter the box slowly. For the cow to be identified, it should keep its head close to
the aerial. If necessary, remain posted behind the cow until the animal has been identified. If necessary, manually
operate the feeding key (B3) in order to lure the cow into the box. For more detailed information refer to
section 2.4.2 ’Control function keys’.
