Operating the milking robot
Chapter 5 - page 6
M-HE.002.1003
Move the mothership towards the udder until the rear teat
cups are positioned approx. 5 cm (1.96 in.) below the
lowermost front teat. The laser will keep turning until the
front teats are visible.
Adjust the mothership to the correct height. By using the
E-link control panel assistance from the gate side of the
robot becomes possible. For more detailed information,
refer to section 3.2 ’E-LINK CONTROL PANEL (optional)’.
Assisting from the control room with the
connection of the teat cups is strictly
prohibited.
Be aware of unrestricted cow movements.
By pressing the ENTER button of the control panel on the robot box, the Search command is activated. The
robot arm will start searching for the teats and releases the cow from the box after milking.
NOTE
By entering a different answer in the ASTRONAUT milking robot, the setting in the T4C
1
/X-pert system can
be adjusted.
The answers to the questions do not only apply to the first milking. After the first milking, these settings are
transmitted to the T4C/X-pert system. For the following milking sessions the data will be retrieved from the X-pert
system.
5.2.6 Future milkings
Guide the cow back into the robot after 8 to 12 hours. The cow is now identified automatically and pre-treatment
of the udders as well as connection of the teat cups are autonomous robot operations.
Always guide the cow into the milk box until she visits the robot of her own accord. Remain in the presence of the
cow during this period. Should there be any problems during teat cup connection, these should be solved as soon
as possible ensuring undisturbed cow behaviour during future milkings. Even if the cow shows up of her own
accord rather soon, still try to attend the first milkings.
The first couple of days the cow should preferably not be milked within 8 hours after the previous milking. This
prevents the cow from holding her milk too easily which would allow the robot to operate with incorrect values.
A number of methods can be applied to train the complete herd to the milking robot. Basically, there is no
difference with the method of training a single cow to the milking robot.
There is, however, one crucial aspect which requires your attention when starting the system: Always lock a group
of cows directly behind the robot. As a result of herd instinct one cow will easily follow another into the robot.
You can start by milking all the cows from the first day on or otherwise opt for enlargement in groups. Depending
on the size of your farm and availability of labour you can vary with two milking times or immediately start milking
the first cows again (24 hours occupation).
